The Range is home to the Avon Park Air Force Auxiliary Field. The airport was originally a civil airport which was taken over during WW II by the government as a training base.
The main runway is 8,000 feet long with an operational control tower and hangar facilities.
Avon Park Air Force Range is 106,000 acres with about eighty percent of this land is open to the public for recreation and hunting.
The Range is located east of downtown Avon Park Florida.
Avon Park Florida is often called the city with the “mile long mall”.
Running east and west through the center of the Avon Park is a beautifully landscaped mall which is a mile in length. Many events happen on the mall and around the historic gazebo.
At the east end of the mall is Donaldson Park. The park is on the shores of lake Verona and the best place to watch fireworks during the 4th of July celebration in downtown Avon Park.

The Depot Museum. The Avon Park Historical Society does more than collect, preserve and showcase the history of our area. We take an active role serving as a resource for the community. Our research room in the museum, our Sunday programs, the dining car operation, our upcoming celebration of the pioneers of Avon Park, our about-to-be-released historical video of the early days of Avon Park, all attest to our efforts to serve our community.
Open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We are also open the first Saturday of each month, selling beverages, snacks and desserts.
