Avon Park Air Force Range

The Avon Park Air Force Range is home to the Air Force Auxiliary Field.  The airport was originally built as a civil airport which was taken over during World War Two ( WW II) by the US government as an Air Force training base.

The main runway is 8,000 feet long with an operational control tower and hangar facilities.

The Range is spans over 106,000 acres with about eighty percent of this land is open to the public for recreation and hunting.

The Range is located east of downtown Avon Park Florida.

 

Sebring Races

The 12 Hours of Sebring held in March of each year at the Sebring Regional Airport (sebringairport.com).  The airport is located east of the city.  This picture was taken at the start of the race in 2005.  For more pictures goto sebringraces.com.

The Depot Museum

The Depot MuseumThe Depot Museum.  The Avon Park Historical Society does more than collect, preserve and showcase the history of our area. We take an active role serving as a resource for the community. Our research room in the museum, our Sunday programs, the dining car operation, our upcoming celebration of the pioneers of Avon Park, our about-to-be-released historical video of the early days of Avon Park, all attest to our efforts to serve our community.

Open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We are also open the first Saturday of each month, selling beverages, snacks and desserts.
