Featured Article: Highlands County Mental Health Summit
SEBRING, Fla., September 13, 2024 – Peace River Center is partnering with Heartland Core Wellness and Synergy Health Group to host the Highlands County Community Mental Health Summit on October 4, 2024, at the Sebring Civic Center, 355 West Center Avenue, Sebring 33870. The event is free to the public and will begin at 8:30 am with a continental breakfast and networking, followed by the following presentations:
- Self-care and Well-being by James Sclater, Clinical Mental Health Counselor with Synergy Health Group
- Mental Illness Myths by Cassie Carver, LMHC, CCTP, CTMH, Senior Clinical Director with Peace River Center
- Tips for De-escalation by Kirk D. Fasshauer, LCSW, FT, Director of Crisis Response Services with Peace River Center
Each session will include time for questions. A panel discussion on Integrating Mental Health into Community Life will then be moderated by Aisha Alayande, Executive Director of Heartland Core Wellness.
“Mental health is a vital component of overall well-being and affects individuals in all walks of life. Together, we can support our community; prioritizing their well-being and offering resources that foster resilience and a trauma-informed approach to healing. With the summit, we aim to debunk myths, reduce stigma, and create a supportive environment where everyone feels valued and supported,” said Alayande.
“We are eager to increase mental health awareness and resources in Highlands County. Peace River Center is grateful to partner with other community organizations and the Board of County Commissioners to ensure that residents receive the help they need,” said Larry G.
