Continued Storm monitoring

Posted by: Reposted by Central Florida Cities on Sep 24, 2024 10:18AM

9 a.m., Sept. 24, 2024: EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT | As we continue to monitor PTC 9, rapid strengthening is expected as it heads northward, and the wind field will expand as the storm strengthens.

The main time for anticipated impacts will begin late Wednesday night into early Thursday and will last throughout much of the day Thursday. The storm is forecast to quickly leave the area late Thursday.

Our area may see 3-6 inches of rain with isolated amounts up to 10 inches. There is also the potential for a few tornadoes.

Currently, Highlands County is NOT included in the Tropical Storm Watch, but we will still see tropical storm-force winds Thursday.
As of right now, County government offices are open. Now is the time to have your emergency plan in place, your supplies ready, and that any equipment is operational.

Things you can do now:
📺 Continue to monitor for updates
📲 Sign up for your community's emergency alerts - http://bit.ly/hcbccalert
🏡 If you can pick it up, put it up
🎒 Build or restock your emergency kit – include a flashlight, batteries, cash, and first aid supplies
🌊 Clean gutters so water flows away from your home
💊 Have a plan for refrigerated medicines & power-operated medical devices
